DE Fastlink linked its 1,000th subscriber, Wendy Wilkerson, on Thursday, September 23, with high-speed internet. PSC Chairman Dane Maxwell, who has been an avid supporter of the broadband initiative, joined leadership and staff to present the homeowner with a gift basket and celebrate this milestone event.
Wilkerson lives in Ellisville and enjoys the quiet country life. She admits that although it has its perks, it has also been difficult without high-speed internet access. “As an instructor, it became challenging for me to do my job from home during the pandemic,” Wilkerson said. “I would have to travel to places with access to high-speed internet just to teach my class.”
More than 3,000 miles of fiber optic cable are required to provide high-speed internet service to the entire service area, with 1,300 miles complete so far. The rollout to the entire service will likely take three to four years to complete.
